SPOILERS for the Entirety of the Violet Evergarden Anime Series (including the recent film) and Volumes 1 & 2 of the Light Novel So last month, I saw the new Violet Evergarden Movie and I really enjoyed it, but at the same time, I was very conflicted on it.
Helped violet live a life outside of war, employed her as a doll for his company and one of the few characters who knows violet's past. He faded to a comic relief at the end. And Evergarden family, despite giving the show half of the title, had basically no meaning in the entire story nor much screen time.
Violet Evergarden was one of the most visually stunning shows I've ever seen. But for me personally, the main draw of the show wasn't necessarily Violet herself, but the encounters with other folks, and that paid serious dividends near the end of the show in terms of emotional impact. I've cried after watching a few anime before.

Personally, I was skeptical when I found out Gilbert was still alive, but I really liked how they presented it in the movie, and how it ended.
Review. First, a primer. Violet Evergarden follows a young girl of the same name who, in the direct aftermath of a fictional war not far removed in nature from World War I, commits herself as an auto-memory doll—a person who ghostwrites important letters. I will address why she does this shortly.

Besides, Violet Evergarden is known for being emotionally devastating. Some scenes other than those portraying depression may trigger you as well. But then again, it's a cathartic experience: it's meant to wreck you in order to build you anew. So viewer discretion is advised, but the anime is still totally worth watching.
Violet Evergarden is just the regular hype when it comes to a studio that set itself a very high standard of animation and storytelling.
